In contrast to Calopteryx virgo, this species is widespread and abundant on the main rivers of the county. Both species are found together though where the two species do occur C. virgo is often more numerous. On the Blythe, the densities of the two species vary between the slower deeper parts of the river and rapid shallow stretches; C. virgo preferring the shallower parts.
